Is Yogurt Healthy For You?

Is Yogurt Healthy for you? The answer: Yes and No.

Simply put, yes if it’s fermented and no if it is not. What’s the difference? In the Journal of Nutrition review, people who ate about 3 1/2 ounces of yogurt a day (about a small cup) lowered their risk of type 2 diabetes by as much as 14 percent. Researchers think the bacteria in fermented dairy products may lower insulin resistance and boost insulin secretion.

The other factor is sugar. The majority of the yogurts in the stores are laden with so much sugar, it becomes unhealthy. Watch out for the ingredient HFCS-90. See Food Babes article on Yogurt for more information.

So is Yogurt good for you? It all depends on what Yogurt you are buying. If it’s fermented and sugar-free, then yes; Yogurt is good for you. As usual be aware of what ingredients are being used.
